About G7LWT

G7LWT is the amateur radio call sign for Darren Storer. Located in Whitefield, Manchester, UK: IO83UN.

My interests revolve around the higher bands (23 cms and above) for use with ATV (including DVB-S digital ATV) and high speed data modes (2 Mbits and higher).

QRV: HF, 6, 4, 2, 70 and 23 cms ATV : 23, 13, 9 and 3 cms ATV. Talkback is monitored on: 144.750, 436.225, 51.55 and 70.3625 MHz.

Now monitoring 144.550 MHz AM, using an old Home Office issue Marconi RC690 radio.

Originally from South Manchester, I grew up and went to primary school in Didsbury. My parents moved to North Manchester when I was 14 but I returned to South Manchester to attend college and stayed for a while as my first three employers were in the area. In 1987 I moved to Southern England (Weybridge) to work on Government, Law Enforcement and MoD projects. After working and living around London with the "shandy drinkers" I returned to settle in Manchester. In the early 90s I finally took the Radio Amateur Exam (RAE) after procrastinating for more than 10 years.

Over the last 20 years, work related assignments have taken me across most of Europe and to parts of the Far East. In 2001 my two boys: Adam M3WTV (14) and Anthony M3ZTV (12), came to live with me full time and foreign assignments were curtailed. Although I miss the challenge of combining work and travel, the reward of having my sons live with me cannot be rivalled.
